Welcome
Welcome to the August 2010 edition of Food Bytes, which is produced by the State & Regional Development and Tourism Division of the NSW Department of Industry and Investment to keep stakeholders up to date with initiatives, events and opportunities relevant to the State's food and beverage industry.
Subsidies for energy efficient refrigeration
The NSW Department of Environment Climate Change and Water (DECCW) is commencing a new program for energy efficiency in industrial refrigeration, as part of the State Government’s $150 million Energy Efficiency Strategy. The Program aims to promote wide-spread adoption of cost effective, commercially proven energy efficient industrial refrigeration technologies throughout NSW.
Industrial Refrigeration specialist Minus40 has been appointed by DECCW to identify energy saving technologies and to develop business cases and verified case studies, and to run seminars and tours of demonstration sites.

Subsidies Available
Business Cases
DECCW will pay 70% of the cost of providing business cases for firms wanting to make their industrial refrigeration systems more efficient, through its Industrial Refrigeration Sector Transformation Program.
A 70 per cent subsidised business case will identify how much money, energy and carbon pollution a company can save by optimising its refrigeration plant. The business case will include projected energy savings, capital cost estimates and calculated payback periods.

Implementation Support
DECCW will also provide 30% funding up to $20,000 for a limited number of “early adopter” projects.

For further information, contact Chris Fitzpatrick, DECCW on (02) 8837 6082, chris.fitzpatrick@environment.nsw.gov.au or Michael Bellstedt at Minus40 on (02) 8850 4811, energyefficiency@minus40.com.au.
